Computer Replaced

My previous computer, which had come to the point that it refused to shut down on some occasions, has finally been replaced. The newer computer uses Windows 7, while my previous used XP. The change in operating system was largely to make sure I'd be able to user the "latest"software out there. Personally, Windows 7 seems OK, it will take a while for me to get used to it (I only first used it a few hours ago!). It took a long, LONG time to transfer all my files and documents to the new computer...Getting is right took several painfully long hours. These hours were painful largely because of reasons unrelated to computing...It was extremely hot today, to the point that I got dizzy just standing up. Even now, at 10:31PM with the ceiling fan on, it is still pretty warm. Most of the computer-work was done by my father and older sister (the younger of the older sisters). It will still take a while to get everything back to normal...But at least I have a computer I know will shut down!

Power Went Out Again

As usual, there was yet another power outage, this time a few hours ago. It lasted over an hour. Usually, where I live, there is a long (over 50 minutes) power outage usually about once a month. Shorter outages, some of which last less than 5 minutes, usually happen about once every 2 or 3 weeks.

It is quite annoying, to say the least. The quick ones, which usually occur in the middle of the night after most have gone asleep, are worse than they would seem at first...Any alarm clock that uses mains power instantly resets itself.

(In what almost counts as irony, the power went out a second time just before I was gonna press the "publish post" button. The 2nd power outage lasted less than 15 minutes, and luckily, Blogspot had saved most of the posting before the power went out)

Now That is Depressing (And How I'm Gonna Get Outta It)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radium_Girls

I made the mistake of reading Articles in Wikipedia's category for Nuclear disasters. A mistake, because I'm depressed enough (with various mental handicaps and illnesses) as it is and I try very hard to sheer myself up. So reading articles like this...Not a good idea.

In order to cheer myself up, I will listen to three extremely cheerful songs ("Bossa Nova Baby" by Elvis Presley, "Frank's 2000" TV" by Weird Al Yankovic, "Here We'll Stay" by Frida & Phil Collins). I am also planning to watch the 1957 NBC-TV Peacock...Less than half a minute long and more cheerful than a marathon of "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog". Actually, that might be a good idea....Its been a while since I watched that 1993 television cartoon and It would certainly cheer me up (and really, I need cheering up even after reading "happy" wikipedia articles like this).

The Blogspot equivalent of Filler - Last Night's Dream

But frankly, until the dream I had last night, I wasn't aware the subconscious could combine the following into a single dream:
Pirate radio broadcasts, Russia, Sim City, Demons, Elvis Presley movie songs, Union labor, McCarthyism, A Bus, Stale Food, Rubber Balls, Early Television, 1940's Pop Music, Pet Cats, and Dragons being hatched in eggs.

Needless to say, the dream was quite...something. It may have been caused by me watching an episode of "Calvin and the Colonel" followed by a few episodes of "Bewitched" and me playing the Wii game "Mega Man 9" before going to sleep. That, and the pizza I ate.

I Learn Something New Each Day

Well, I learned this a few months ago: My computer is an amazingly, unbelievably awful piece of crap. No, really...It may be a Windows XP (technically an obsolete operating system though still widely used), but isn't able to do some things a Windows 95 could do. The biggest issue, though, is something distinctly 2000's: when I am playing music on iTunes, the music will often "skip", like a broken record or a scratched CD, when I open moderately large webpages, and even some barely medium-sized pages. True, the vast majority of PCs in the world don't do this; In my case, my father built this computer several years ago, and, within the last few months, has become increasingly unusable. I am requesting from my father that my next computer (built with modern-day use in mind) has much larger RAM. Yes, I am one of the few people who gives a damn about RAM ("Random Access Memory"). It is important when a large amount of unsaved data is being used.
